I've always been enamored of mohair, the lovely fiber of angora goats. I'm always looking for mohair fleeces (email me if you have some to sell ~ I'm easy!) and enjoy dyeing the locks and spinning them into fun, funky yarns. Mohair brings strength and luster to your projects and while not all of it is next to the skin soft, kid and yearling may very well be that soft! At any rate, try adding some to socks, outerwear, bags, felting projects...the list is truly endless when it comes to working with mohair! The photo above shows some of my hand-dyed mohair locks ready to spin into a wool/silk blend yarn. Scroll down through this page to check out a wide variety of differnt mohair products for your spinning, felting, and weaving pleasure!
KID MOHAIR LOCKS ~ These are gorgeous soft kid or fine yearling mohair locks with an average staple length of about 4 inches. They were gently handwashed by me and kettle dyed. I tease the locks a bit while they dry so they are lovely and open but they are a bit disorganized. I bought this fleece from an American shepherd. Awesome for carding and blending to spin into a traditional yarn or spinning as is for art yarns. Also great for dollmaking or needlefelting or weaving :) Kid Mohair Locks ~ Cartwheel : 1.5 oz / $6.00 (one 1.5 oz lot available) Kid Mohair Locks ~ Dragon : 2 oz / $8.00 (Two 2-oz lots available) Kid Mohair Locks ~ Punch : 2 oz / $8.00 (One 2-oz available)

KID MOHAIR LOCKS ~ These are lovely soft kid mohair locks. In this batch, the staple length is fairly short for mohair, averaging about 3" so while they may not suit corespun or tailspun yarns, they would be wonderful to card into other fibers or card and spin alone. They would also be excellent for needle felting and are a great bargain!

Sumac Kid Mohair Locks ~ 2 oz bag / $5.00 (Five 2-oz bags available)

SUPERFINE KID MOHAIR ~ SPRING DREAMS : This is an unbelievablely soft & fine kid fleece! Truly wonderful stuff with amazing luster! The staple length is approximately 3+ inches and the locks have been dyed in a bright happy combination of violet, pink, bright green and lemony yellow. They were dyed in separate batches and mixed after so each lock is a separate color with no blending of colors from lock to lock. You can play with blending them or sort them out into their individual colors if you prefer. The locks are so soft that you almost can't feel them against your skin ~ no kidding!
2 oz bag: $5.00 ~ (1 bag available)

Fine Young Adult Mohair Fleece ~ Stormy Seas : This is a very soft, lovely young doe fleece that has been dyed and teased open.
4 oz / $10.00 (One 4-oz lot available)

Yearling Mohair with a Touch of Fine Wool Combed Top : Memories ~ A perfect colorway for a man or a woman in a luxurious, super soft & silky blend with just a touch of wool. This is an absolute joy to spin! This is being sold in an 8 oz lot
8 oz lot Memories Yearling Mohair/Wool Combed Top ~ 30.00 (One 8 oz lot available)
Fine Young Adult Mohair & Border Leicester Roving: Joy ~ This colorway came about by happenstance and I fell instantly in love with it! It glows on the soft and very fine yearling mohair and border leicester blend (80/20). If you think all mohair is picky, I urge you to try this because it's absolutely lovely!
4oz Joy Mohair/Border Leicester Hand Dyed Roving ~ 15.00 (Two 4 oz lots available)
This is available in VERY limited quantities. I'm at a loss to describe it to you ~ amazing luster, lovely halo, super silky & next-to-the-skin soft and a LOT of fun to spin! It's very small sliver, for lack of a better description, meaning that there are slim lengths of top that you can spin alone to get a fine gauge yarn or combine for a heavier yarn. The thickness of the lengths varies some as well...you can split them or stack them depending on the fineness of the yarn you're spinning. I think these are PERFECT for spindling and can be spun with a minimum of effort very very smoothly. The lengths of sliver vary...it's not one continuous "wheel" like you normally see in pencil roving. The lengths vary from a foot long to VERY long ~ 10 - 15 feet approximately, and different lengths in between these extremes. This can be drafted very easily as well into laceweight. When I dye the kid/merino laps they tend to revert to somewhat of a lock structure, which is really cool ~ it's very obvious in this stuff and happens some in the Kid Klouds too. I have more of this to dye so if you have special color requests, LET ME KNOW! I've heard from some of my spinning customers that this product can be a bit tricky to spin ~ it's quite slippery and somewhat fragile so spinning from the fold has been suggested for this fiber if you're using a wheel. I find it a bit easier to handle on a lightweight drop spindle :)

KISS Kid Mohair Gilled Sliver ~ 3 oz / $12.00

Spruce Kid Mohair Gilled Sliver ~ 3.7 oz / $14.50
I'm unable to offer custom dyeing of this particular fiber since I'm nearly out of it and won't be able to purchase more. I do have a limited quantity of dye stock left so more dyed Kid Klouds will be added to the site as I sort through the laps.
The hand-dyed version of our yummy super-soft kid mohair laps ~ the best of the laps, carefully sorted for fluffy clouds of dreamy spinning fiber with amazing luster. This is next to the skin soft for all but the most super-sensitive people. It really has an amazing luster & is a dream to touch. We recommend that you treat the dyed laps/cloud as you would a clean fleece....you can spin from the clouds (that have been teased for you!) or process it by hand or in a drum carder for the perfect prep. Lots of folks love to spin it just as it is!

PICNIC Kid Klouds ~ Varying shades of green, blue, violet and red. 100% Kid Mohair. Two 4 oz lots available at $10.00 each
